GOD HAS SPOKEN TO US
Hebrews 1:1-14

God has always been in touch with man. In the Old Testament He spoke
through the prophets. He spoke many times and in many different ways. But
He always spoke in a way that man could understand what He was saying.
First He spoke to the conscience but man hardened himself to God's voice.
Then He gave them the Law but they refused to obey it. Then came the
Prophets but they were rejected and persecuted. Finally God determined to
make Himself and His plan understood by mankind. So He sent His Son as
His last appeal to man to repent of his sins and inherit eternal life.
Here is how God has spoken to all mankind.
I - God Emphasizes Christ's Sonship

2-His Accomplishments - vs. 2c
C- He Exposes the heart of God

2-The Picture of His Person - vs. 3b
3-The Power of His Word - vs. 3c
II - Christ Exhibits His Superiority
A- By His Provision - vs. 3d "Purification for sins"
B- By His Posture - vs. 3e "He sat down"
1-There were no chairs in the Tabernacle or Temple
2-The priests never sat down - their work was never completed.
3-Christ's work was completed - "It is finished"
4-The conscience, Law, nor Prophets were finished.
C- By His Position - vs. 3f "At the right hand of Majesty--"
1-He was
seated for there was nothing more to be done.
2-He made a complete provision for our Salvation.
III - Christ Excels the Angels
A- By His Relationship to God ("Son") - vv. 4-5
1-Angels are part of His creation.
2-Angels are servants and not Sons.
3-Angels are always seen standing in the Bible.
B- By His Rightful Worship - vv. 6-7
1-Angels worship Him.
2-They are His servants.
C- By His Royal Powers - vs. 8
1-He is Permanent - ("eternal") - vs. 8a
2-He is Pure - ("righteous) - vs. 8b-9
3-He is Powerful - vs. 10-12
a-In Creation - vs. 10
b-In Continuation - vv. 11-12
D- By His Provision of Salvation - vv. 13-14
1-Angels can serve but they can never provide Salvation.
2-Angels never accept worship from men.
God has spoken to us by His Son. He is the "Living Word" Who was in the
beginning with God and He was God. He came to earth as a helpless baby.
He lived just like we live. Then He died to save us from our sins. That
is the message God speaks to our hearts in the story of Christmas.
